TOEFL Home Edition Proctored Mac Setup
TOEFL iBT Home Edition is delivered by ETS through ProctorU on Mac. Live human proctor + continuous webcam + screen capture. Available globally with limited country exclusions.
ETS uses ProctorU as the delivery vendor for TOEFL iBT Home Edition. The setup: download Guardian Browser, run ProctorU pre-check (system, environment, ID), then take the exam with a live proctor. Guardian on Mac captures via macOS APIs that honor window privacy. The overlay is invisible. Spoken sections (the Speaking task) require the microphone; the overlay's window does not produce audio, so the section runs normally.
About 2 hours total in the post-2023 shortened format.
Spoken responses are recorded for human review. ETS scores them with raters; AI-detection on speech is not standard.
ETS allows 3-day retake intervals as of 2026.
