Pearson Test of English (PTE) on Mac

Updated October 2026 · 3 min read · Tested with LockDown Browser v2.1.6.01

PTE Academic is Pearson's English proficiency exam, accepted for university admission and visa applications. Standard delivery is at Pearson testing centers; PTE Online is the home variant where available.

PTE Online (the home variant) uses OnVUE on Mac, the same infrastructure as Pearson VUE's IT cert exams. Pre-exam: ID check, room scan, system test. During exam: live human proctor, continuous webcam, periodic screen capture. The Mac capture path honors window privacy; the overlay is invisible. The Speaking module uses your microphone naturally and is unaffected by the overlay (which makes no sound). Pearson has historically been strict about PTE security; confirmed cheating leads to score voiding.

Many countries accept PTE Online; check your visa's English requirement specifically.

Academic is for university; Core is for general migration. Different content, similar delivery.

Yes, with usually a 24-hour gap minimum. Pearson does not cap retakes.

The Safe macOS Solution

Need reference access during your exam?

Fracture runs a native floating overlay that sets the macOS window privacy flag. It is 100% excluded from screen capture feeds, window lists, and proctor recordings.
